About this photograph : Stones by Godard

1968
Influenced by the 1968 protest in France, Godard went to London to film the Rolling Stones. In his film ‘One + One,’ Godard broke with fiction and began a reflexive and experimental period imbued with politics. The Stones, who were better known at the time for their escapades and spats with justice than for their musical talent represented protest and rebellion. If Godard had no preconceived idea about what he wanted to film, his idea was to "juxtapose two views: one about music, one about politics. Then see what came out of it." The Stones enthusiastically accepted to take part in this experimental project all the more so as Godard guaranteed them artistic-political support. The unique subject of the documentary was the studio recording of pieces highlighting work in progress.
