Séchage d'algues
Nets used to dry seaweed, Wando Archipelago, South Korea (34°19'N - 127°05’E). In this archipelago, which includes over 200 islands, large and small, inhabited and deserted in the south-west Korean Peninsula, the main activity is aquaculture, in particular that of seaweed. In the past harvests were modest but nowadays seaweed for consumption is cultivated in huge quantities. The Koreans are the biggest consumers of seaweed along with China and Japan. In 2004 the production of edible Korean seaweed was 71,000 tons (in dry weight). Certain species are sold as dried leaves and used to wrap sushis, others are used in soups and sauces. Considered as a "sea vegetable" these seaweeds are an important source of proteins and vitamins. The culture of seaweed is part and parcel of sustainable development. It is an activity that requires non-polluted waters and does not destroy the water life in which it lives. Today the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) encourage the culture of seaweed around the world as an efficient way of beating food insecurity.

The colorful, resplendent, singularly geometrical images that he brings back from here and elsewhere form one of the most beautiful anthems to the earth.
